This International Women’s Day, we’re raising a glass (of sunshine-inducing, full-bodied rum) to Joy Spence – the first woman to hold the position of master blender.
No mean feat…
Master blender Joy Spence has the distinction of being the first woman to hold this position in the spirits industry, with more than thirty illustrious years of history at the infamous Appleton Estate.
With a Masters degree in Analytical Chemistry with honours, Joy began her career at Appleton Estate as Chief Chemist in 1981. In 1997, Joy went on to take the renowned title of the world’s first female master blender!
Love, expertise and personal touch
Every single barrel of rum to leave Appleton Estate is selected by Joy and her team. Her love, expertise and personal touch goes into each and every bottle to produce only the finest!
Creating world-renowned blends is part of Joy’s every day – from Appleton Estate Reserve Blend and Appleton Estate 50 Year Old – one of the world’s oldest barrel-aged rum.
Raise a glass!
It’s safe to say that Joy Spence (and her nose) really are one of a kind… in her honour, and to help you raise an extra-special glass to International Women’s Day this year, we’ve got an extraordinarily special bottle of Joy up for grabs – a combination of rums aged for between 25 and 35 years.
Head to our socials for entry details. Winners picked at random and announced on the 8th of March 2019.
